When the water supply stops, you will often need to collect water from somewhere else: a tanker truck, a well or a public tap. This container lets you carry about 10 litres in one trip and store it safely at home.
When empty, it folds flat and weighs very little. When full, it stands on its own, and the tap lets everyone use it without dipping cups into the water. That keeps the water clean for longer.
Plan for about 2 litres of drinking water per person per day. Cooking and washing need more. Follow the advice of your local authorities on where to get water during an outage.
Why it’s in the kit
Clean water is useless if you can’t carry it or keep it clean. Bottles are small, and buckets spill and collect dirt. A closed container with a tap is the simple answer, and it fits in any bag when it is not needed.
Storage & maintenance
Store it clean, dry and loosely folded, away from sunlight. If water stands in it for more than a few days, empty it, rinse it and refill it. Check the cap and tap seals once a year.
How to use it
Wash it first
Rinse the container with clean water before the first use. A drop of dish soap helps; rinse it out well.
Unfold and fill
Open the cap, pull the container into shape and fill it. Fill it with treated water only, unless it is your "dirty" container.
Close and carry
Screw the cap on firmly. Carry it by the handle and keep it upright.
Use the tap
Open the vent on top, then the tap. Water flows evenly without touching the inside of the container.
Dry before folding
Empty it, leave it open to dry fully and only then fold it away.
